Italy’s famous and prized Nero Portoro marble, quarried in Portovenere, namely in the Gulf of Poets, is appreciated and sought-after all over the world. Its singular and unique color characteristics make it one of the most beautiful types of marble in existence and also one of the longed-for, especially given its limited availability. Used in antiquity for important and prized architectural works it was originally called “yellow and black mix” due to its unique color tones. Only later did it assume the name of its quarry site. The characteristic intense and brilliant black background, given by the presence of fine carbon pigments, is crossed by frequent white and yellow, almost golden, veins and spots, which create a bold and suggestive contrast at first glance. This is an extremely rare and prized natural stone, unique in its kind. Elegant and irreplaceable, Portoro marble is the material par excellence for projects of contemporary interior design: a true work of art that weds refinement and luxury in a luminous texture with a wealth of chromatic contrasts and extraordinary visual effects.
